Synchronica Previews Industry-Standard SyncML Push-to-Phone at 3GSM
New Solution Aims to Provide a "BlackBerry for the Rest of Us" - Delivering Instant Mobile PIM and Email Synchronization to Standard Mobile Phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Siemens
3GSM, Cannes, February 15, 2005. - Synchronica today announced that it has extended its SyncML Gateway with SyncML PUSH support instantly delivering new Emails and changed calendar items to the user's mobile phone.
A preview is demonstrated at the booth of Sun Microsystems in Hall 1 C6where the Synchronica SyncML Gateway pushes Microsoft Exchange data over-the-air to mobile phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson and others.
"RIM certainly had significant success with their BlackBerry solution, but it is based on a proprietary protocol and requires special devices with only a few costly models available", said Carsten Brinkschulte. "With SyncML Push, a similar user experience can be delivered to standard mobile phones with a broad choice of devices from various vendors."
Based on the open industry standard SyncML defined by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), the Synchronica SyncML Gateway works with any SyncML-enabled mobile phone. Currently, more than 150 devices from leading vendors, such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Siemens are shipping with built-in SyncML clients.
Designed to meet the high standards of mobile operators, the Synchronica SyncML Gateway offers carrier-grade scalability and high-availability running on industry strength J2EE application servers, such as the Sun Java System Application Server.
Unlike competing solutions, the Synchronica SyncML Gateway does not require any software installation at the corporate and works without additional client software in the device. Instead, users simply register at a central website and instantly receive new PIM and Email messages delivered to their phones. Push notifications are sent to the device using standard WAP or IP Push messages compatible with the built-in SyncML clients of standard mobile phones.
"The Synchronica SyncML Gateway is the only solution which can provide mobile synchronization with zero footprint", said Nicole Meissner, co-founder and VP Marketing at Synchronica. "It is attractive for mobile operators because they can promote the service directly to end-users rather than having to convince each corporate to install those unloved adapters and proprietary clients of other solutions."
