"Synchronica Has a Compelling Solution That Enhances Ogo's Value"

Interview with Tal Raeside, Vice President, Marketing & Strategic Development, IXI Mobile Inc. About the Licensing Deal with Synchronica and the Mass Market Appeal of Ogo

Interview led by mobile messaging specialist Denis Davies on June 6, 2006

Tal Raeside

Tal Raeside

Why did you decide to approach Synchronica for their solution?

Synchronica has a compelling solution that enhances Ogo's value, and we are excited to be working with them.

What impact do you expect the improved solution to have on sales / partnerships?

We expect the joint solution to be very appealing to potential customers and help drive increased sales.

For what reasons do you require both telcos and ISPs to become customers before launch is possible?

IXI's customers are mobile operators, MVNOs and ISPs (each customer is independent and is not required with any other customer for an Ogo launch). These constituents have strong customer relationships and are looking to Ogo to increase mobile data usage.

I understand you are targeting a mass market audience via a low price point - but within this you must have some more specific demographics. What are these? How do you plan to reach them? And for what reasons will they become customers?

Ogo appeals to the mass market with its compelling design, application set, simplicity and affordability. This mass market group is comprised of several sub-segments including mobile youth and small businesses. These users have few mobile messaging options, and Ogo fills the need for an optimised, affordable mobile solution.

For what reasons would businesses opt for the Ogo ahead of a BlackBerry device?

Ogo offers business users a compelling solution for mobile email and messaging. Ogo provides a robust email and messaging experience including access to up to five email accounts, at a fraction of the cost of many other mobile solutions. RIM, the market leader in mobile email with its BlackBerry product line, has only five million mobile email subscribers out of a cellular market of 2.2 billion and roughly 700 million email users worldwide.

Given that the Ogo supports VoIP and IM - both potentially damaging to telco's revenues - are operators reluctant to promote / support the device?

Mobile operators realize that traditional revenue sources including voice, SMS, ringtones and downloads, are no longer growth drivers. These operators are very excited about launching Ogo as a new mobile data enhancing solution.

How many further launches can we expect soon? Are you able to give any details?

We are unable to provide forward looking statements regarding future launches.

Are you able to provide me with any usage figures?

We are unable to disclose specific usage figures but we can reveal that Ogo users are active mobile messaging users. For example, Ogo IM usage significantly outpaces desktop IM usage. Ogo has been launched in several countries including the U.S., Switzerland, Turkey and Germany, and IXI recently announced Ogo's entrée into the Latin American market, with Uruguay as the first launch country.
