Biography: Carsten is a co-founder of Synchronica. He has spent his entire career developing and bringing to market innovative software solutions for telecommunications and web applications. His experience includes time spent with very large companies, such as SAP and Apple, as well as spells with technology-based startups.
Unlike many CEOs in the mobile space, Carsten doesn't just talk the talk, he also walks the walk. In 2007 and 2008 he has visited a plethora of developing countries to meet with mobile operators and to see first-hand what conditions are like in these emerging markets. Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America have all been visited by Carsten in 2007.
These visits provided the inspiration for Synchronica's emerging market strategy by providing him with a rich source of information on the mobile market in these areas, as well as strong views on how the mobile user experience will be shaped in these emerging markets over the coming months and years.
He says: "There is a quiet revolution going on in emerging markets. At the heart of this revolution is the mobile phone which is rapidly transforming people's lives in regions as far-flung as the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The rewards for everyone in the value chain are potentially huge, but there are challenges ahead - who wins and who loses is up for grabs."
