Mobile Gateway: Standard Push Email and PIM Infrastructure Brings BlackBerry Experience to Mass Market Devices
The Synchronica Mobile Gateway brings industry standard push email and synchronization services to mass market devices adding a key feature for the business and prosumer markets.
The success of the BlackBerry was largely attributed to the infrastructure software which connects devices to enterprise mailboxes. Providing push email services to end-users adds a key differentiation factor, establishes a direct relationship to end-users and binds them to the brand. With the Synchronica Mobile Gateway, any device manufacturer can now offer push email services using well established industry standards.
As a unique advantage unmatched by other products, the Synchronica Mobile Gateway does not require any software installation or firewall modification in the corporate IT environment. Instead, the Mobile Gateway is operated as a hosted service and connects to the user's mail server through a secure connection.
Users simply register their devices with the Mobile Gateway which instantly synchronizes their email, contacts, and calendar data over the air. This unique zero footprint architecture leads to a fast take-up rate, enabling service providers to offer mobile synchronization directly to end-users, without having to convince the IT department to install software for external access to corporate data.
Based on the dominant open industry standards SyncML (OMA DS) and Push IMAP (IMAP Idle), the Mobile Gateway provides push email, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes synchronization. On the backend side, it supports Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, Sun Java System Communications Suite and mass market email services, such as MSN or Yahoo. Since it is based on industry standards, it is compatible with mass market feature phones, as well as smartphones and does not necessarily require additional client software.
Device manufacturers of Palm OS and Windows Mobile-based devices can add industry standard push email and synchronization features using the customizable Synchronica SyncML clients.
