More Growth from Synchronica
May 1, 2008. - Robert Tyerman from the Growth Company surmises speculative recovery possibilities for Synchronica:
Mobile email software specialist Synchronica sees further expansion after halving annual losses to GBP three million on doubled turnover of GBP 2.3 million. The Tunbridge Wells-based company says a key milestone last year was winning a contract to supply software to U.S. giant Sun Microsystems. Carsten Brinkschulte, Chief Executive Officer of AIM-quoted Svnchronica, says Sun paid an initial GBP 900,000 acceptance fee and will now pay annual royalties of USD 2.40 (120 pence) for each piece of equipment embodying the software used by any of Sun's 240 million licensed users.
Synchronica Turns to Emerging Markets with Open Source Push Email
April 2008. - Pamela Clark-Dickson from Mobile Messaging Analyst about Synchronica turning its attention to emerging markets:
Brinkschulte says that Mobile Gateway is well suited to the emerging market demographic - which typically has a large user base of low-end devices - because it works with the native client on the phone. Low-end handsets are unable to run the mobile email clients offered by Synchronica's competitors, which are designed for smartphones - the market for which is limited in emerging markets. However, the Synchronica platform also works with smartphones and feature phones.

Apple's Exchange Hook-up "A Pity"
March 7, 2008. - Tony Dennis from The Inquirer about Apple's decision to license ActiveSync:
"It's a pity that Apple has decided to go down a proprietary route and license ActiveSync, but then Apple is really only a mini Microsoft after all." That's the verdict of Synchronica's CEO, Carsten Brinkschulte. He was commenting on Apple's recent announcement that support for push email will be built into the next release of its iPhone OS.
Synchronica Partners With Brightstar for Distribution of Mobile Gateway Product
March 2, 2008. - Chris Talbot from eChannelLine about the distribution agreement with Brightstar:
"The key here is, Synchronica is a small company, and we are intending to offer our technology on a global basis. Brightstar does have a global reach as a distributor", said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica. It was essential for Synchronica to find a value-added partner with a global distribution channel for the Synchronica Mobile Gateway as the company continues to expand, he said.

Synchronica plc - Synch Signs Global Agreement
February 21, 2008. - Reuters about Synchronica's latest global reseller agreement:
The latest deal establishes another channel and will help Synchronica to further penetrate the global market for mobile email, which is expected to grow rapidly over the next five years, led by the emerging markets. "All forecasts point to emerging markets as the breakthrough area for mass market mobile email. The number of mobile phone subscribers in developing countries has almost tripled in the last five years, and they now account for more than 58 percent of subscribers worldwide", Carsten Brinkschulte, Synchronica CEO, comments.
Another Placing from Synchronica
February 20, 2008. - Growth Business comments on the placing of shares:
Tunbridge Wells-based Synchronica last month flagged up a halving of 2007 losses to GBP 3 million and said it had adequate cash after raising GBP 1.87 million at 6.25 pence. But now Synchronica decided it wants more money to make a push for markets that lack elaborate existing communications networks and where attaching email capability to simple mobile phones could be big business.
Synchronica Distribution Deal Brings Push Email To The Masses
February 17, 2008. - Andrew R. Hickey from CMP Channel about the global distribution deal between Brightstar and Synchronica:
Mobile Gateway gives operators, device manufacturers, and enterprises the ability to allow their mobile workforces to send and receive email from their consumer mailboxes, such as AOL, Gmail, and others, along with synchronizing their calendar and contact data with business systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, and Sun Java System Communications Suite. Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte said the goal of the Brightstar deal is to add value to the myriad mobile devices that don't support push email out of the box, a common theme among resellers.

Interview for Deutschlandfunk
February 16, 2008. - Manfred Kloiber of German Deutschlandfunk interviewing Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona:

Synchronica Bolsters Mobile Gateway
February 13, 2008. - TMCnet about Synchronica's new version of Mobile Gateway:
Carsten Brinkschulte, Synchronica's CEO, noted: "Mobile operators in emerging markets have been telling us that they see a strong market for mass market mobile email and look at mobile email as a way to get around the inherent problems caused by low fixed-line and PC penetration. The challenge has been finding a mobile email solution that works with all phones in use today and does not need additional client software to be installed on the device. With Mobile Gateway 3.5, we have added the last piece of the jigsaw, by enabling any mobile phone user, regardless of which handset they use, to access their email easily from their phone."
Applications Development - Making Sense Out of Fragmentation
February 7, 2008. - Mobile Europe about the development of so-called open mobile applications:
So what has attracted the fiercest criticism is Yahoo's claims that its 'Go' will allow third party developers to write applications that will run on a wide variety of mobile devices. Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of mobile email specialist Synchronica, commented: "Once again we see a big vendor heralding an 'open' mobile platform which is, in fact, proprietary technology that does not support common industry standards, such as Push IMAP and SyncML."
Synchronica to Deliver Phone Email Via SMS
January 28, 2008. - Daniel Robinson and Phil Muncaster from IT Week about new Synchronica products:
Mobility specialist Synchronica is to demonstrate forthcoming products at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, including a way for entry-level phones to send and receive email using the SMS text message facility already in every handset.
Sun Accepts Synchronica Technology
January 16, 2008. - TMCnet about the deal with Sun Microsystems:
In a release, Synchronica noted that it delivered the software components to Sun on schedule in November 2007. Having accepted the software, Sun will pay, in three equal installments in February, July, and October 2008, an initial licence fee of USD 1.8 million for the first major version of the software and, where applicable, further licence fees on a per user per annum basis. Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica said: "We are delighted to have received Sun's acceptance of all the licensed components of Mobile Gateway. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our developers that we fulfilled our initial contractual obligations to Sun and delivered the first major version of our software to them on time within the agreed framework."
Yippee for Yahoo?
January 11, 2008. - Monica Alleven from Wireless Week about Yahoo's mobile offering:
Among its initiatives is the beta launch of Yahoo Go 3.0, the company's flagship, all-in-one mobile offering. Where 2.0 was a collection of mobile-optimized Yahoo services, Yahoo says its 3.0 is an 'open' environment offering Yahoo's full section of mobile widgets developed by third parties. Once again, the term 'open' is subject to many different definitions or references. Suffice it to say, my optimism about Yahoo's initiatives diminished a little after a conversation with Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of software developer Synchronica, who points out that it's not really open at all, even though it looks like it at first glance.
Yahoo Lacks Open Platform
January 9, 2008. - The UK Mobile Report about Yahoo's mobile platform announcement:
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, claims that lack of a truly open platform and resistance from mobile handset manufacturers will severely restrict mass market adoption of mobile applications based on Yahoo's Go platform.
Is Yahoo Ready to Go Mobile?
January 9, 2008. - James Middleton in the Telecoms.com blog about Yahoo's launch of a platform which promises to help developers get their applications onto mobile devices:
But not everyone is sold on the idea. Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of mobile device management firm Synchronica, reckons: "Yahoo's lack of support for open standards and homogenized user interface will throttle mass market device support."
Mobile Email and Backup for the Masses
January 8, 2008. - ITP.net quotes Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte about mobile trends in 2008:
It is my belief that mobile email consumption in emerging markets will leapfrog Western Europe and the U.S., and new business models adopted by operators in the Middle East, Africa, India, and Eastern Europe will begin to be replicated by Western operators in the race to capture the consumer dollar. However, to make this happen, it is important to use middleware that can support the majority of the standard mobile phones that are already out there in the market.
Syncyourmail Uses Screaming Technology
January 4, 2008. - Tony Dennis from The Inquirer about the technology behind the mobile email service Syncyourmail:
Synchronica made the headlines recently, because its software was one of the first offerings to work with the infamous Apple iPhone. But in reality, the software - and therefore Syncyourmail - works with virtually any leading smartphone. Everything from Windows Mobile down to Nokias and Sony Ericssons.
Six and the City
January 2, 2008. - The Sun selects Synchronica as the first of six stocks to back during the next twelve months:
Synchronica, valued at just GBP 5.9 million, is the first of our small-cap selections - and probably the riskiest stock we've ever backed. Its technology lets mobile phone users connect their handset to their email system, allowing standard mobiles to act like the highly popular BlackBerry. The service is already used on more than 15.000 Apple iPhones.
