Supported Standards Overview

Synchronica Mobile Gateway and Mobile Backup Standards

Synchronica Mobile Gateway and Synchronica Mobile Backup are built on standards defined by:

The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) which has defined standards that have been widely adopted by the mobile phone industry and supported by many handset manufacturers.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) which has defined standards to transport email over the internet.

The LEMONADE standard which consists of extensions to the existing IMAP and SMTP protocols defined by the IETF.

The CalDAV standard that enables scheduling information to be shared between a client and a remote server.

Standards Used by Synchronica Mobile Gateway

Synchronica Mobile Gateway, the push email and PIM synchronisation product that provides a unique combination of industry standards to offer mobile email and synchronization products for a wide range of mobile devices covering the mass market, as well as business use, is built on these standards:

OMA Client Provisioning (OMA CP) - Providing a standards-based device provisioning module helping users to configure their mobile phones quickly and efficiently, increasing customer satisfaction and reducing the burden on support centers.

OMA Data Synchronization (OMA DS / SyncML) - Providing a standard for synchronization of contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, and email data between a data store and the built-in PIM applications on the mobile device.

OMA Data Synchronization Server Alerted Notification (OMA DS Push) - An enhancement to version 1.2 of the OMA DS standard which allows for a server to alert a mobile device whenever new PIM data is waiting to be synchronized.

OMA Email Notification (OMA EMN) - Providing a mechanism for push notification for mobile email, using binary SMS to trigger the email client to access the mail server when a new email is available for collection.

LEMONADE IMAP IDLE (Push IMAP) - A LEMONADE extension to the IMAP standard that provides a mechanism for a mobile device to remain connected to the IMAP mail store to receive push delivery of messages.

Internet Message Access Protocol Version 4 (IMAP4) - The IETF standard for accessing email over the internet, supported by many ISPs and mobile devices.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) - The IETF standard for sending email over the internet, supported by the greatest majority of ISPs and any mobile device with an email application.

CalDAV - Provides calendar access via WebDAV. CalDAV models calendar events as HTTP resources in iCalendar format and calendars containing events as WebDAV collections. This allows users to publish and subscribe to calendars, share them collaboratively, synchronize between multiple users, and synchronize between multiple devices.

Standards Used by Synchronica Mobile Backup

Synchronica Mobile Backup, the PIM backup product, uses a combination of industry standards to offer backup and restore services of PIM data with an easy and hassle-free service setup and is built on these standards:

OMA Client Provisioning (OMA CP) - Providing a standards-based device provisioning module helping users to configure their mobile phones quickly and efficiently, increasing customer satisfaction and reducing the burden on support centers.

OMA Data Synchronization (OMA DS) - Providing a standard for synchronization of contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, and email data between a data store and the built-in in PIM applications on the mobile device.

CalDAV provides calendar access via WebDAV. CalDAV models calendar events as HTTP resources in iCalendar format and calendars containing events as WebDAV collections.
