Manual Configuration - Nokia Series 40

IMAP Client Configuration for Nokia Series 40 Devices (Email only)

Follow these instructions to configure your Nokia Series 40 device to synchronize email with the Mobile Gateway using IMAP. The Nokia 6280 handset was used in this example. Note that other Series 40 devices may differ slightly.

Note: you only need to follow these configuration steps once.






Step One - Locate Messaging Icon

Click the Menu button to open the Main Menu. Use the device joystick or thumbpad to highlight Settings and select it.

The Settings Menu is displayed.

Step Two - Open Configuration Settings

From the Settings Menu, select Configuration. The Configuration Settings Menu is displayed. Select Personal Config Settings to open your Email Settings.

Step Three - Open Email Settings

From the Email Settings page, enter the following:

Account Name - an identifier for the account

Email Address - enter your email address as registered on your PIM server and Mobile Gateway account

Include Signature - leave this blank

Reply-to Address - leave this blank

SMTP Secure Login - leave this as disabled (Default)

Outgoing SMTP Server - enter the address of the Mobile Gateway in standard address format, i.e. www.syncml.biz

Outgoing SMTP Port - default is 25

SMTP User Name - enter your email address again, as registered on your PIM Server and Mobile Gateway account

SMTP Password - enter the password as on your PIM Server and Mobile Gateway account

Incoming Server Type - select IMAP4

Highlight Incoming Mail Settings and select it to continue.

Step Four - Incoming Email Settings

Under Incoming Mail Settings, specify the following:

Incoming IMAP4 Server - enter the address of the Mobile Gateway in standard address format, i.e. www.syncml.biz

Incoming IMAP4 Port - default is 143

IMAP4 User Name - enter your email address again, as registered on your PIM server and Mobile Gateway account

IMAP4 Password - enter the password as on your PIM server and Mobile Gateway account

Retrieve Emails - select the maximum number of emails to retrieve (default is 30)

Retrieval Method - Select Latest or Latest Unread

Select Back to save your settings.

Step Five - Begin Synchronizing

From the Main Menu, select Messaging and Email.

Select your mailbox from the list to open the Inbox.

Your handset will now communicate with the Mobile Gateway and download the messages in your inbox (this may take a few seconds if you have many messages).

Select Send Now from the Options menu at any time to perform a synchronization.

You can now view and reply to your emails with your Series 40 device.
