IMAP Client Configuration for Palm Devices (Email only)

The following instructions show configuration of a Palm OS smartphone for IMAP email only.

For configuration of PIM synchronization (SyncML) please refer to the Mobile Gateway help for downloading the Palm OS SyncML Client.







Step One - Locate Email Icon

Press the Applications button to open the Applications Menu. Tap the Email icon.

The Account Setup page is displayed.

Step Two - Create New Account

From the Account Setup page, select New to create a new email account.

Step Three - Enter New Account Details

Enter the following information:

Account Name - an identifier for the account (useful if you have several accounts on your Palm)

Mail Service - select Other

Protocol - select IMAP

Tap Next to continue.

Step Four - Enter Username and Password

Enter the following information:

Username - enter your email address as registered on your PIM server and Mobile Gateway account

Password - your password for the above username

Tap Next to continue.

Step Five - Enter Email and Host Addresses

Email Address - enter your email address as registered on your PIM server and Mobile Gateway account

Incoming Mail Server - the address of the Mobile Gateway in standard address format, i.e. www.syncml.biz

Outgoing Mail Server - the address of the Mobile Gateway in standard address format, i.e. www.syncml.biz

Tap Next to continue.

The Palm device reports that the basic setup of the new email account is completed.

The Advanced settings are only necessary if you want to change the incoming and outgoing port numbers from the defaults (143 and 25).

Otherwise tap Done.

Step Six - Begin Synchronizing

Select your mailbox from the list to open the Inbox.

Your handset will now communicate with the Mobile Gateway and download the messages in your inbox (this may take a few seconds if you have many messages).

Select Get at any time to perform a synchronization.

You can now view and reply to your emails with your Palm device.
